PRTM (Pittiglio Rabin Todd & McGrath) was a 📝Management Consulting firm that focused on operations and product development for technology-intensive companies. Theodore Pittiglio, Robert Rabin, Robert Todd, and Michael McGrath founded it in 1976 in Palo Alto, California, and it was later headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts. It advised clients in high technology, telecommunications, aerospace, automotive, chemicals, and financial services on product innovation, supply chains, and operational strategy.
PRTM became best known for 📝PACE (Product And Cycle-time Excellence), a product development framework it introduced in 1988. PACE ties product development together through cross-functional core teams, phase reviews at which management makes go/no-go decisions, and structured development processes. The firm grew to 19 offices in 10 countries. PricewaterhouseCoopers agreed to acquire PRTM in June 2011 and closed the deal that August, absorbing the firm into PwC's consulting business.
After Harvard Business School, I became a consultant at PRTM, a firm filled with engineers with MBAs. I was an associate, then a manager, working with senior executives at high-tech companies on product development process and product strategy.
