I applied to Harvard Business School in 1991. My Dad was a construction worker, my Mom a homemaker. I didn't think I'd get in. My Dad bet me I would get in, so I filled out the application.
One of the questions I remember is something like "How do you envision your career after Harvard Business School?"
While reflecting on my career many years later, I realized that everything I had written about in that essay came true, in order, except for one thing.
I imagined in the essay that I would continue to learn about business after graduating by working in consulting (📝PRTM). Then I'd want to learn about how businesses are bought and sold (Greif & Co.). Then I'd want to start a business (📝Affinity Internet), sell a business (📝Our Exits), invest in businesses and write a book.
So I started writing.
