The 📝Articular Mobility Glossary collects the terms used when 📝Articular Mobility, gentle and non-adjustive joint movement, appears in a Somatic Realignment Therapy session note, defined in plain language for clients; nothing here describes a thrust, an adjustment, or chiropractic or osteopathic care.
Glossary
A
- 📝Amplitude — how large an oscillation or movement is; this work stays small.
- 📝Articular — of a joint.
- 📝Available Range — the range a joint already has, which this work moves through and never past.
C
- 📝Circumduction — moving a limb slowly in a circle to visit the whole range.
- 📝Comfort Range — the pain-free part of the range, where all movement stays.
E
- 📝End Feel — the quality of resistance felt at the edge of comfortable range: soft, firm, or guarded.
- 📝End Range — the last part of available motion, approached slowly and never forced.
G
- 📝Glide — the small sliding of one joint surface on another that accompanies normal movement.
J
- 📝Joint Play — the small passive give a healthy joint has beyond its active range, felt gently and never pushed.
N
- 📝Non-Adjustive — the defining quality: no thrust, no click sought, no relocation.
O
- 📝Oscillation — slow, rhythmic back-and-forth movement at low amplitude to ease stiffness and settle tissue.
P
- 📝Passive Movement — the practitioner moves the joint while the client stays relaxed.
R
- 📝Rocking — rhythmic movement of a joint or the whole body to reduce guarding.
S
- 📝Stiffness — reduced ease of movement that this work aims to soften; a sensation, not a diagnosis.
- 📝Synovial Fluid — the joint's lubricant, which movement helps circulate.
T
- 📝Traction — gentle manual lengthening along the line of a limb or the spine to create a sense of space; light and by hand, not a mechanical therapy.
