Platform Credits in 📝MythOS are the prepaid balance 📝Billing & Plans keeps separate from your subscription — a dollar amount that funds AI chat whenever it runs on model keys MythOS provides. Credits are measured in dollars, not tokens or messages.
They exist because AI spend does not fit a subscription. A library that nobody chats with costs nothing to run, while a busy public chat can cost real money in a week — so inference is priced as usage rather than folded into a tier where everyone would subsidise everyone else. No plan includes credits, and that is by design rather than oversight.
Credits matter most to creators running a public-facing chat, because visitor conversations draw down the library owner's balance, not the visitor's.
Key Capabilities
- A dollar balance — one prepaid figure per library, shown on the billing page as the amount remaining
- Top up any time — preset amounts of $5, $10, and $25, or a custom amount from $1 to $500
- No expiry — credits never reset, never roll over into anything, and never lapse; the balance simply persists
- Owner-funded chat — conversations visitors have with your library spend your balance
- Per-turn reservation — each message briefly holds an estimated maximum, then refunds the difference once the real cost is known
- Low-balance and depletion alerts — in-app and email warnings as the balance draws down
- Bring your own key instead — supply a provider key and credits are bypassed entirely
Getting Started
- Go to Settings → Billing and find the Add Platform Credits card, which shows your balance as remaining
- Pick $5, $10, or $25, or type a custom amount and press Add
- Complete the one-off payment in Stripe's checkout
- You land on a Credits Added confirmation showing the amount applied, and the new balance is live immediately
FAQ
- Do credits come with my plan? No. Subscribing to any tier grants zero credits. The two systems are billed separately and neither tops up the other.
- Do credits expire or reset each month? No. The balance is a permanent prepaid wallet — it only moves when chat spends it or you add more.
- Who pays when someone else chats with my library? You do. Chat spend is drawn from the library owner's balance regardless of who is talking, which is why budget caps exist alongside it.
- What happens when the balance hits zero? Chat pauses. Your billing page shows Credits exhausted — chat is paused, and a visitor is told the creator's chat credits have been used up.
- Can I skip credits entirely? Yes. Connect your own provider key and chat runs on it — MythOS never reserves credits for those turns, and the top-up card disappears from your billing page.
- Is there a platform fee on top of the model cost? Yes, a percentage markup is included in the usage figure on your billing page, which states the current rate alongside the total.
