Mythos

Collective Governance in 📝MythOS is an upcoming layer for 📝Communities that lets members share ownership of their space and elect a cycling leadership team — a President on a one-year term, a Treasurer on two, whatever the community constitutes. It exists because today's platforms hand communities to a static moderator class on infrastructure a corporation owns and monetizes; the community is the platform's asset rather than its own. This is for existing groups who want their conversation space, content, membership, and decisions to belong to the members themselves — with MythOS providing the machinery and sensible defaults while each community chooses its own constitution.

Key Capabilities

  • Elections — nominate, run, vote, and record results for community-defined roles
  • Term-bound roles — elected positions and their terms attached to member accounts as permissions
  • Community-defined officer powers — each community decides what its roles can do: moderation, treasury, admissions, bylaw edits
  • Configurable voting — one-member-one-vote or weighted, plus voter eligibility, all set and amended by the community
  • Bylaws as living documents — proposed, voted, implemented, and version-tracked in the community's own memos
  • Officer handoffs — structured succession between outgoing and incoming officers
  • Exit rights — a community can vote to export everything it owns and leave

Getting Started

Coming soon. Collective Governance is in active development; existing communities will be able to turn it on without restructuring.

FAQ

  • Who decides the voting rules? The community does — MythOS ships common defaults, and communities amend voting method and eligibility through their own bylaws.
  • Do officer terms expire automatically? Automatic expiry is planned as an opt-in setting; the default is a structured manual handoff so small communities aren't decapitated by a late election.
  • What happens to our content if we leave? It goes with you. Exit rights cover content, membership, and records — ownership that can't leave isn't ownership.
