Mythos

Transaction Downloads are the bank and credit card transactions that accounting software such as 📝Quickbooks Online automatically imports from a business's financial institutions, each of which must be reviewed and recorded in the books.

QuickBooks Online connects to every major financial institution in the United States and downloads, each day, the deposits, payments, and charges that hit a company's accounts. Each downloaded line typically arrives with only a short string of bank text, and someone has to decide how to record it: which vendor or customer it belongs to, which account in the 📝General Ledger it should post to, and whether it matches an existing invoice or bill. Rules in the software can learn recurring patterns so that familiar transactions are categorized automatically, leaving people to review the rest.

Learning to handle transaction downloads efficiently and well is the most basic form of bookkeeping. Accepting downloaded transactions is the first step of the 📝Weekly Bookkeeping Checklist, which keeps the books current every week and feeds the metrics and forecasts of 📝Weekly Accounting.
