Signals is a feature of 📝Clay that turns any tracked data change — job changes, website visits, social mentions, technology installs, hiring patterns, support tickets — into a sales-ready trigger for outbound outreach.
Before Signals, surfacing buyer intent across firmographic, technographic, and behavioral data meant stitching fragmented signals across many providers, hand-coded ETL, and brittle workflows that lagged behind the moment a prospect was actually in-market.
Signals serves revenue operations teams, outbound SDR groups, and founders running their own 📝Go-To-Market (GTM) motion who want intent to flow directly into enrichment, AI-personalized outreach, and CRM action without engineering work.
Like so many things, Signals turned something we'd built with Clay into a feature of Clay. Signals enabled us to duplicate a prospecting function that had taken us weeks to build and hone—like our most profitable workbook, the 📝Reddit Advertiser Prospecting (workbook)—into something we could replicate in a few minutes.
Key Capabilities
- Native intent signals — Job changes, website visits, and brand-mention monitoring shipped out of the box, applicable to both target accounts and individual prospect personas.
- Custom signal composition — Build a trigger from any data point Clay can enrich — technographic installs, hiring patterns, funding rounds, product activations, support escalations.
- 150+ data provider stack — Layered enrichment across firmographic, technographic, and behavioral sources, with provider routing managed by Clay rather than the customer.
- Trigger-to-action workflows — Surfaced signals pipe directly into enrichment tables, AI message drafting, and CRM or sequencer push without intermediate glue or engineering.
- Composable with custom logic — Signals chain with Clay's broader workbook automation, letting teams duplicate hand-built prospecting workflows as productized triggers.
Getting Started
Signals is included with Clay's paid plans. To set one up:
- Open a Clay workspace and select Signals from the workspace navigation.
- Choose a native signal — job change, website visit, brand mention — or build a custom one.
- Define the trigger conditions — target audience, threshold, time window.
- Connect the signal output to an enrichment table or downstream automation.
- Activate. Clay monitors continuously and surfaces matches as records ready for action.
