Traveling rings are an Aerial Gymnastics apparatus consisting of a series of rings that enable an individual to "travel" from ring to ring; often compared to Tarzan's vine swinging. There are fourteen sets of traveling rings in the world, the most famous is at Original Muscle Beach in Santa Monica, California where a community of regulars—seen below—has developed around them.

I was introduced to the traveling rings in 2015 and, after about six months, had the opportunity to attend Burning Man for the first time with Swing City; the theme camp that rebuilds all of the Original Muscle Beach equipment on the Playa each year. The experience turned my fellow gym goers into a kind of family and emboldened my dedication to the sport.
