Trust & Will is an online estate planning platform intended to provide an affordable, accessible, and secure way to set up an estate plan online. The platform modernizes estate planning with a design-first approach, layered on top of customer support to help people throughout the process.[2] Trust & Will also provides legal forms and counsel in estate planning; all documents and services have been designed specifically to the state laws of each client and are automatically vetted by attorneys.[3]
Trust & Will offers three main products. Clients may choose to have one, two, or all three documents, depending on their personal situation and preferences.
Guardian: this service is used to nominate guardians for minor children. It’s specifically designed for anyone with dependents who isn’t yet prepared to complete a formal will or trust.
Will: is a common document in which one makes provisions for the care of their children and the distribution of assets. Clients can nominate guardians for their children and pets, determine final arrangements, leave specific gifts, note special requests, and even specify healthcare wishes.
Trust: is a more comprehensive legal document, that includes everything that might be in a will, but with the extra protection that it enables one's estate and beneficiaries to avoid probate court. It also gives the ability to either transfer assets into a specific trust, or directly to named beneficiaries.[3]
We met the founders of Trust & Will soon after they'd started the company in 2018 at a Meetup for the San Diego startup community. In February of 2020, after reviewing their books, Trust and Will became the first client of Caroline Zdanowski, one of the co-founders of Weekly Accounting. I became Fractional CFO in the summer of 2020. In November of 2020, the company raised a $15m Series B lead by Victor Echevarria at Jackson Square Ventures.
