Slack is a channel-based messaging platform, owned by Salesforce since 2021, that organizes team communication into channels by project, client or subject as an alternative to email.
Channels keep each conversation in one searchable place that members can join or leave, and shared channels (Slack Connect) extend the same structure to people outside the organization. Direct messages, threads, file sharing and integrations with other business tools sit alongside channels, which lets teams move routine coordination out of the inbox.
Slack is rapidly becoming the next generation email. At 📝Weekly Accounting we use it to communicate with teams on projects and subjects, internal and external. The channel structure is what makes it much more efficient and effective than email.
