Contribution is value given into a community or enterprise, and the unit by which that value is recognized, recorded, and eventually returned.
In the economy 📝One Inc ran as a California worker cooperative, contribution was the measured quantity. 📝One Ledger recorded every contribution across six 📝Types of Capital, 📝Resonance Dollars (R$) expressed them all in a single unit, and 📝Patronage Distribution returned profits in proportion to them. What made the accounting unusual was its patience: 📝One Agreement bound a Citizen and the cooperative to exchange value "without determining, or knowing, the value, or allocation, at the time of initial contribution."
A second sense runs through the same library. 📝Authentic Contribution is a framework for earning standing on 📝Contribution Platforms like Reddit and Hacker News by becoming genuinely useful to a community before becoming commercially useful to oneself. There the contribution is logged not in a ledger but in a public post history, and the return arrives as advocacy rather than patronage.
The two senses share a structure. Each treats value given without an immediate price as the thing that compounds, each makes the record of giving public — a ledger in one case, a comment history in the other — and each inverts the ordinary sequence in which payment precedes the work.
I keep building systems that measure this. The cooperative's ledger and the Reddit framework came out of different decades and different problems, and they resolve to the same instinct: give first, keep the record in the open, and let the value be settled later.
