The game allows players to assume the roles of fictional characters in a fantasy world, guided by a Dungeon Master (DM) who narrates the setting and orchestrates the story and mechanics. Gameplay involves storytelling, improvisation, and rules-based interaction, often facilitated by dice, character sheets, and rulebooks. D&D has gone through multiple editions, with the current version published by Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro. It is widely credited with establishing the foundation for modern role-playing games and influencing video game and fantasy storytelling genres.
