RamsesThePigeon (aka @Max Schlienger) is a Reddit content-contributor and subreddit moderator "with ten years, hundreds of posts, thousands of comments, and nearly 5,000,000 karma behind [him]." He is also a game designer, screenplay doctor, creative director, and all-around creative for many ongoing projects. The name RamsesThePigeon was hatched in 1999 when Schlienger was gifted a program to create his own role-playing game.
He knew that he wanted his name to be bold and iconic but every option which sprang to mind was either too bizarre, too uninspiring, or too derivative to be acceptable. Finally, as a placeholder, he called his protagonist “Ramses the Pigeon.” The exact inspiration for this name is unknown, but regardless of its origin (and despite the hatred with which its creator first regarded it), the title stuck… and moreover, it began to infect everything that he did, first transforming an allegedly serious game into a self-deprecating work of satire, then affecting every creative endeavor that he tried to undertake. Over the years, hints of Ramses the Pigeon’s involvement started to become noticeable in a wide variety of media. Among them, his decade-long contributions to the Reddit community. He summarizes his methods with this piece of advice:
When you approach a piece of content, give it just a little bit more consideration than you initially think that it deserves. Ask yourself if other people – people with different opinions and perspectives than you personally hold – might appreciate something. Put yourself in the shoes of every creator, commenter, and consumer that you encounter.
