Nivi Achanta is Founder and CEO of Soapbox Project and host of Get Schooled podcast. She has "a passion for sustainability, social justice, and all things tech."[2] Through The Soapbox Project, Achanta aims to educate readers about practical ways to decrease their impact on the planet. [3]
A lot of people don’t have close friends in their life who they can talk to seriously about social issues. Our community is a great place to actually share what you’re thinking and what you’re reading and what you’re listening to — and then do something about it within your community.[4]
Her social change journey started during her senior year at UC Davis when she started the state chapter of an international non-profit called Net Impact.
Basically, we had a bunch of members who were really interested in very specific environmental causes, like water management and waste management. That was the first time where I sort of just laid this empty canvas out for people and let them define the vision and the goals of an organization. That was so cool to see how good I was at providing structure and then other people coming in with their own talents and their own knowledge to shape an organization. I also realized how much work is needed in the environmental and social impact space. [4]
Fresh off college, she served as Management Consultant at Accenture, where she led one of the first enterprise transformations for one of the world's largest philanthropic foundation. [1] However, she lost her position in 2020, which ultimately led to the creation of Soapbox and its thriving community. Nivi was introduced to us by @Mathilde Leo and will be speaking at @Confluencer Con 2021.
