Locked In is an interactive video produced by the labs arm of 📝Typeform and released for Halloween, in which the viewer makes the choices that determine how the story unfolds.
The piece was the company's first experiment in the format, made in-house by its content team rather than commissioned as advertising, and Typeform's own account of the production describes it as assembled in roughly 36 hours. It was published at a moment when interactive film was still widely treated as impractical, before 📝Bandersnatch brought the format to a mass audience on Netflix at the end of 2018.
As a piece of 📝Interactive Media it belongs to the 📝Choose Your Own Adventure lineage of 📝Nonlinear Storytelling: the narrative branches at decision points and the audience, rather than the author, selects the path. Its interest as a marketing artifact is that a software company with no filmmaking mandate built one — a content experiment that demonstrated the interaction model its product sells, without being a product demonstration. The Typeform Labs subdomain that originally hosted the experience no longer resolves; a linear recording survives on YouTube, and the company's later interactive-video product, 📝VideoAsk, carries the same premise into a commercial tool.
