James Segil is a serial technology 🏷️#entrepreneur and investor based in Los Angeles. He co-founded and served as president of Openpath, a mobile and touchless access-control company acquired by Motorola Solutions in 2021, and of EdgeCast Networks, a content delivery network acquired by Verizon in 2013 for a reported ~$400M. His earlier ventures include KnowledgeBase Solutions (sold to Talisma), and he later served as CMO for Verizon Digital Media Services.
Segil has built and sold multiple companies across web hosting, content delivery, and physical security over a 20-plus-year career, often alongside longtime collaborator Alex Kazerani. He received Ernst & Young's 2014 Entrepreneur of the Year award for the greater Los Angeles area and holds a Harvard MBA. Beyond operating, he is an active angel investor and advisor to startups and venture and private-equity funds, and has spoken publicly about LA's tech ecosystem as a generator of repeat founders.
I met James at a founder dinner co-hosted by 📝Samuel Adams of 📝Bixby and 📝Thomas Kang of 📝Fenwick & West.
