Mythos

Function Health is a privately held American health-testing company founded in 2021 and headquartered in Austin, Texas. It sells an annual membership bundling a panel of roughly 100 blood and urine biomarkers — marketed as 160 tests across two draws per year — with clinician review and algorithmically generated results reports. Testing is fulfilled through third-party laboratories, principally Quest Diagnostics; the company operates no labs of its own. Whole-body MRI and CT imaging are available as add-ons. Membership launched at $499 per year.

Co-founded by physician Mark Hyman alongside Jonathan Swerdlin, Daniel Swerdlin, Pranitha Patil, Mike Nemke, and Seth Weisfeld, Function opened to the public in 2023 against a waitlist reported at roughly 200,000 and passed 100,000 members in 2024. A $53M 📝Series A that June valued it at $191M; a $298M Series B led by Redpoint Ventures in November 2025 valued it at $2.5B, with Andreessen Horowitz and a roster of celebrity and athlete investors participating. Growth has come substantially through acquisition — Ezra in May 2025, which brought whole-body MRI in-house and let Function cut the scan price from $1,495 to $499; Getlabs in April 2026 for at-home phlebotomy; and SuppCo in May 2026 for supplement ratings. The model has drawn criticism from clinicians who argue that broad biomarker screening of asymptomatic people produces false positives, unnecessary follow-up testing, and patient anxiety.

Enough friends brought Function up unprompted that it stopped reading as coincidence. I became a member on August 17, 2026 and booked my first test.
