Tag Explainer Memos link a memo to a tag as its editorial definition inside 📝Tagging — write a memo that explains what a tag means, then set it as that tag's explainer, and MythOS uses it to choose the tag's display title everywhere the tag surfaces. It exists so a raw hashtag isn't the only way a reader encounters a topic — a tag can point to real writing about itself. It's for creators building out a lexicon of defined terms across their library.
Key Capabilities
- One explainer per tag — each tag can carry a single linked explainer memo, set from either the editor or settings
- Any owned memo qualifies — the explainer can be any memo you own, public or private
- Drives Primary Tag selection — when no tag is manually pinned, 📝Primary Tag auto-selects the first tag (in document order) that has an explainer memo
- Surfaces in discovery — a tag's explainer-memo title displays in "Your Memos" and community discovery rows in place of the raw tag
- Visibility-gated on public pages — a public tag page only shows the explainer if it's currently public; a private explainer stays visible to the owner but hidden from visitors

- Click any tag chip in the editor to open its popover, or go to Settings → Tags
- Search your own memos and pick one to link as the tag's explainer
- The tag's display title updates wherever it surfaces in discovery

- Can I link a private memo as an explainer? Yes — but it only shows on your own settings and editor; a public tag page hides a private explainer from visitors.
- Can two different creators use the same tag with different explainers? Yes — the link is per (tag, owner), so each creator's own explainer applies to their own use of the tag.
- What happens if I unlink the explainer? The tag falls back to its raw name in discovery rows, and it drops out of Primary Tag's auto-selection pool.
- Does renaming a tag keep its explainer? Yes — renaming merges the explainer onto the destination tag if it doesn't already have one.
