Silicon Valley is the region of the San Francisco Bay Area, in Northern California, recognized as the global center of the technology industry, semiconductor innovation, and venture capital.

The name originated with the area's mid-20th-century concentration of silicon-based semiconductor manufacturers and has since become shorthand for the broader technology economy centered south of San Francisco, in cities including San Jose, Palo Alto, Mountain View, and Cupertino. The region's growth has been shaped by its proximity to 📝Stanford University, a deep supply of engineering talent, and a dense ecosystem of venture capital. It is home to many of the world's largest technology companies, including 📝Apple.
