Desiderata is Max Ehrmann's 1927 prose poem that begins "Go placidly amid the noise and haste."
Our uncle gave a wall hanging version of Desiderata to my brother to hang in his room. Since my brother and I shared a room, I read it frequently from the time I was 8 years old and have had it memorized ever since.
