Storyteller Consciousness is the recognition that the stories we tell create the reality we see, and the practice of telling those stories deliberately rather than living unaware inside them.
The term comes from Charles Eisenstein's 2007 book The Ascent of Humanity, which traces the history of civilization through the evolution of the human sense of self. Eisenstein argues that over thousands of years the creative play of storytelling came to enslave people, who lost the storyteller's awareness that they were authoring the stories at all. Recovering that awareness, in his account, means seeing theories, technologies, and personal choices as acts of creation that define who we are becoming. In an excerpt published by Awakin, he writes that for words to be truly powerful they must be aligned with creative intention, and only then can people create the stories of their lives.
