A brief history of communication tools in my lifetime.
In this version of myself I have never scratched onto a cave wall. I never sent a message by pony express. I never sent a telegraph or a telegram and I couldn't tell you the difference between the two.
Long distance calls were prohibitively expensive when I was a baby, but I made my 📝First phone call in 1972.
I learned to program in 1982. I imagined the spreadsheet in 1984…I mean I'm sure lots of people did.
I sent my 📝First email in 1986. I started using Quicken in 1992. I learned to use Excel in 1992. I used 📝Voicemail for Work in 1994. I started using Gmail when it launched in 2004. I imagined Visual Voicemail would save the world in 2008.
I stopped using Excel in 2016 in favor of Google Sheets. I stopped using Gmail (the interface) in 2018 in favor of SuperHuman.
I started using 📝Mythos One in 2018. For the first time I experienced 🏷️#writing something once and referring to it forever.
I started using 📝BigQuery in 2021.
I started using ClickUp in 2022 and felt like I learned to program again.

Here's my presently reasonable communication hierarchy
- Call me twice - For family+, it's an emergency I'll always answer.
- Call me once - Expect a text back, see #3.
- Text me - I'll very likely respond within 24 hours. If I don't, text again.
- Email me - You should not expect me to notice this for several weeks.
- Voice mail - You should not expect me to notice this for several years.
- Postal mail - I still send cards at New Year's. That's nice.
