Faraday Factory Japan is a Japanese manufacturer of second-generation high-temperature superconducting tape, founded in July 2011 under the name 📝SuperOx Japan LLC and owned since 2022 by the US-based Faraday 1867 Holdings.
The company produces 📝REBCO 📝coated conductor — 📝HTS tape — using ion beam assisted deposition for the textured template and pulsed laser deposition for the superconducting layer, finished with silver magnetron sputtering and copper electroplating. Its head office is in Hachioji, Tokyo, its research division in Sagamihara, Kanagawa, and its Zama factory, opened in 2024, has a design capacity of 1,000 kilometres of 12-millimetre tape per year. Sergey Lee is chief executive and Valery Petrykin chief technology officer; both were SuperOx Japan co-authors on the 2021 production paper the company still cites as the description of its material, 📝YBCO Wire Production for Fusion, whose simplified yttrium-oxide-nanoparticle YBCO formulation is what the plant makes.
📝Fusion is the company's stated principal market. In September 2024 it announced that cumulative deliveries to fusion companies had passed 5,000 kilometres — one giga-ampere-metre — and named Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Thea Energy, Proxima Fusion and OpenStar Technologies among the recipients, quoting CFS chief science officer and co-founder 📝Brandon Sorbom on the significance of the milestone for the 📝SPARC build. The company states that cumulative deliveries have since passed 10,000 kilometres to roughly 250 customers in nearly 30 countries, and that its tape is used in every compact fusion prototype under development — a claim it makes in its own voice and which no independent source verifies.
