Mythos

Startup Coil is a #community-centered organization based in @Los Angeles, CA that hosts events and gatherings for local founders, builders, and technologists. Events are generally casual in tone, with an emphasis on peer-led discussions, collaborative learning, and spontaneous networking. The brand identity leans toward minimalist design with lightning bolt iconography, signaling energy and momentum in early-stage innovation. While not structured as an accelerator or investment group, Startup Coil occupies a space between meetups and more formal incubators—offering an accessible entry point into LA’s tech world. Startup Coil was founded by @Zach Sekar. I’ve been attending Startup Coil events on and off since 2018. It’s always felt more like a loose gathering of strangers than a bonded tribe. That’s not necessarily bad—there’s value in open-ended spaces—but it rarely leaves a lasting emotional imprint. Most folks seem early in their journeys, which makes sense given the casual format, but it means depth and momentum can be hard to find. It’s a pleasant environment if you’re looking to meet people or spark a new project, but I wouldn’t call it catalytic. Lately, I’ve been craving spaces that feel more alive with shared myth and mutual commitment. Still, there’s something to be said for the neutrality here—no one’s trying to pitch you, and you’re free to just exist. Maybe that’s the point.
