Grubhub is an American online food-ordering and delivery marketplace, founded in 2004, that connects diners with local restaurants through its website and mobile apps and coordinates last-mile delivery through a network of couriers. It serves consumers ordering meals, restaurants seeking online order volume, and drivers who fulfill deliveries across the United States.
Grubhub was founded in Chicago by Matt Maloney and Mike Evans as an online alternative to paper takeout menus. It merged with New York–based Seamless in 2013 and went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2014. After years of intensifying competition from 📝DoorDash and Uber Eats, which eroded its early lead in the U.S. market, Grubhub was acquired by the European delivery group Just Eat Takeaway.com in 2021 for about $7.3 billion. Just Eat Takeaway later sold the business to Wonder Group — the food-delivery and "fast-fine" dining company founded by Marc Lore — in a deal valued at roughly $650 million that closed in early 2025.
