In database management and software development, a schema violation refers to data or actions that do not conform to predefined structural or logical requirements, potentially causing errors or inconsistencies in systems. Catching and resolving these violations is a basic part of data integrity and system reliability.
More broadly, schema violations are recognized in 📝psychology and organizational theory as departures from internalized expectations, scripts, or narratives. In both senses the work is the same — identifying and addressing the divergence — and the concept shows up wherever risk evaluation, quality assurance, or adaptive learning is in play.
One of my favorite examples of a schema violation is wearing underwear on the outside of your pants.
