Google AdWords (rebranded to Google Ads in 2018) is the suite of online advertising products operated by 📝Google, allowing advertisers to buy placement across Google Search, the Google Display Network, YouTube, Google Shopping, Discover, Gmail, and partner apps and sites under a single bidding and reporting platform.
AdWords pioneered the keyword-auction model for search advertising, charging advertisers per click on ads ranked by a combination of bid and a Quality Score that approximates an ad's likely relevance and click-through rate to a given user. The platform has expanded over the years to include display, video, and shopping campaigns; automated bidding modes (Target CPA, Target ROAS, Maximize Conversions); and AI-assisted creative and targeting products like Performance Max and Demand Gen. It remains the single largest revenue driver for 📝Alphabet and the foundational ad-buying surface for most of the open commercial web.
