RadicalxChange is an international 501(c)(3) nonprofit, legally RadicalxChange Foundation Ltd., that advances participatory governance in the age of AI. Its stated mission is to help "communities cooperate across difference." It does this by designing and field-testing mechanisms that let people who disagree steward shared resources: plural (quadratic) voting, plural (quadratic) funding, plural ownership through time-limited stewardship with a recurring public fee, deliberative assemblies, collective data bargaining, and community currencies.
The organization grew out of the ideas in Radical Markets (2018), by economist E. Glen Weyl and Eric Posner, and the later book Plurality. Its archive dates to 2018, and Weyl is widely credited as its founder and chair. Its board includes Weyl, Audrey Tang, Vitalik Buterin, Anne-Marie Slaughter, Christopher Kulendran Thomas, and 📝Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It pairs open research with civic-tech pilots run with real partners. Current examples include a housing deliberation across eight Sydney councils, input from faith leaders to the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance, and a Colorado climate-preparedness roadmap. It hosts monthly community calls and Salons, a podcast, and autonomous chapters in more than thirty cities.
