The root chakra represents our foundation and feeling of being grounded. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine at the tailbone. It is the first chakra and regulates our survival needs and sense of being grounded. It is also the most physical chakra, so any physical activity will help to strengthen the root chakra. The root chakra is associated with security, whether it be physical, emotional or financial. It aids in feeling courageous, stable and safe. The root chakra helps us to feel grounded to the earth and planted strong. When this chakra is clear and energy is flowing through it, we feel confident that we can easily fulfill our needs. If the root chakra is blocked, we may feel anxious, worried or depressed. [1]
Opening
Opening the root chakra can be assisted by being physically active. Go for a run, swim or any other physical activity you enjoy. Receiving or giving a massage will also help unblock the root. We want to try to reconnect with our bodies so physical focus is key here. Since our root chakra is closely related with the color red, having anything that is red around us will aid in opening this chakra up. Wearing red and focusing on red items will trigger the energy flow to this chakra. Red gemstones are also known to assist in the opening of this chakra. Examples of this are garnet, ruby and bloodstone. [1]
Meditation
Close your eyes and focus on your breath to clear all the mental clutter going on in your head. Once you are in a relaxed meditative state, focus on bringing energy up through the bottom of your feet, through your legs and into the base of your spine where the root chakra is located. With each inhale, imagine the energy forming into a bright red ball of energy. With each breath, the ball of energy gets bigger and bigger and starts to rotate in a clockwise direction. Continue this until you really feel the energy at the base of your spine. Once you feel this and the root chakra is open, move onto the @Sacral Chakra. [1]
