Mythos

The Iliad Bookshop is a large independent used-and-rare bookstore in the NoHo Arts District of North Hollywood, California, operated since 1987 by owner Dan Weinstein and known for its sprawling labyrinthine layout, its long-running roster of resident shop cats, and a deep stock of fiction, philosophy, history, art books, vintage paperbacks, and out-of-print titles.

The Iliad has become one of the most-photographed independent bookstores in Los Angeles, anchored by a substantial cat-portrait Instagram following built around its resident shop cats. It hosts occasional in-store readings and author signings, runs a long-tail rare-and-collectible section in addition to general used-book inventory, and has weathered multiple cycles of independent-bookstore consolidation in the city — most notably a 2018 fire at the adjacent building from which it survived intact with community support.
