Snap (NYSE: SNAP) is the American technology company behind 📝Snapchat, the messaging app launched in 2011, and Specs, its augmented reality glasses. It earns most of its revenue from advertising, adds subscription income through Snapchat+, and serves consumers who skew young, alongside advertisers and AR developers.
Co-founded by 📝Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy, the company renamed itself from Snapchat Inc. to Snap Inc. in 2016 as it introduced Spectacles, the camera glasses that began a decade of hardware work, and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2017. Snap calls itself a camera company, and its Lenses made it one of the first mass-market consumer platforms for mobile augmented reality. Snapchat reported 493 million daily active users in the second quarter of 2026. That September Snap opened pre-orders for consumer Specs at $2,195 in the United States, United Kingdom, and France — a self-contained mixed-reality device with a 51-degree field of view and an AI assistant called Specs Intelligence, with shipping expected from October. Spiegel has framed intelligent eyewear as the company's long-term opportunity.
