Mythos

Target (NYSE: TGT) is an American general-merchandise retailer headquartered in Minneapolis that operates nearly 2,000 stores across all 50 states alongside its ecommerce site and app. It sells apparel, home goods, groceries, beauty, electronics, and essentials, leaning heavily on owned brands, and reported fiscal 2025 revenue of about $104.8 billion.

Target traces to the Dayton's department store business George Dayton founded in Minneapolis in 1902. The Dayton company opened the first Target discount store in Roseville, Minnesota in 1962, and the chain grew large enough that the parent renamed itself Target Corporation in 2000. Its long-running position is discount pricing paired with design-forward assortment, built through designer collaborations and a deep bench of private labels. Recent milestones include the 2017 acquisition of the same-day delivery service Shipt, a store-as-fulfillment-hub model for pickup and delivery, and the Target Circle loyalty program. Michael Fiddelke, previously chief operating officer, became chief executive in February 2026, succeeding Brian Cornell. Target competes with 📝Walmart on price and reach, with 📝Amazon on convenience and delivery, and with 📝Costco on household staples.

Target is a regular stop on my errand runs; it shows up again and again in my weekly logs as the place I go for quick household pickups.
