Wonder Woman is a DC Comics superhero, Princess Diana of Themyscira, who debuted in 1941 and is a founding member of the Justice League.
The character first appeared in All Star Comics #8 in October 1941 before headlining Sensation Comics #1 in January 1942, and her own title has been published almost continuously since, apart from a brief hiatus in 1986. On her island homeland of Themyscira she is Princess Diana, daughter of Hippolyta; in the wider world she adopts the civilian identity Diana Prince.
Wonder Woman was created by the psychologist and writer 📝William Moulton Marston with artist Harry G. Peter. Marston's wife, Elizabeth, and their life partner, Olive Byrne, are credited as inspirations for the character. His stories carried ideas from his 📝DISC Assessment theory and drew on early feminists, especially birth control pioneer Margaret Sanger and her work Woman and the New Race.
Beyond comics, the character has anchored major screen adaptations, most prominently Lynda Carter's 1970s television series and Gal Gadot's portrayal in Wonder Woman (2017) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020).
