Jessica (Jess) Faust is a materials 🏷️#scientist and composites research 🏷️#engineer based in Greater Boston. Faust is a Principal Research Scientist at Markforged, the maker of an industrial platform of 📝3D Printing hardware, software and materials. Faust joined Markforged as a Senior Research Scientist in December 2020 and moved into the principal role in June 2025, working on polymer composites for additive manufacturing.
Faust earned a PhD in Materials Science from Northeastern University in 2020, holding an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship during the doctorate, then completed a postdoctoral appointment at Northeastern's College of Engineering before joining Markforged. An earlier bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering came from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where Faust graduated with distinction in 2016. Undergraduate research placements included 📝FDM 3D printing at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in 2013 and atmospheric plasmas at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory in 2012, and Faust worked as an automotive restoration technician before university.
