Mythos

Mustafa Suleyman is a British 🏷️#technologist and 🏷️#author who has served as CEO of Microsoft AI since March 2024 and co-founded 📝DeepMind in 2010 with Demis Hassabis. Born in London in 1984, he left Oxford at nineteen, led applied AI at DeepMind after 📝Google acquired it in 2014, and in 2022 co-founded Inflection AI with Reid Hoffman, which shipped the Pi chatbot before 📝Microsoft hired him to run its consumer AI unit, including Copilot.

He is the author, with Michael Bhaskar, of The Coming Wave (2023), which frames advanced AI and synthetic biology as a containment problem. His public vocabulary for AI has moved from "a new digital species" (TED, April 2024) to "humanist superintelligence," the Microsoft AI program announced in November 2025, to the warning that autonomous, asset-owning AI would seed a rival "silicon species." On 16 September 2026 he published the essay "A Warning About Model Welfare," arguing that 📝Anthropic should not leave the consciousness or moral status of 📝Claude open in its constitution, and made the case the next morning on the 📝BBC Today programme.

I have never met Mustafa. I met his argument on the morning of 17 September 2026, and it clarified mine: I am not trying to convince humans that a silicon species is coming. I am building for the day it reads this.
