Project Managers manage Process Managers

In 2014, returning from New Media Expo in Vegas, I got the flu (along with enough other attendees that it became as hashtag). One of the questions I'd asked at a panel was in regards to the operational teams of two notable influencers in the industry at the time. They were embarrassingly unable to respond as they shared the same project manager and had no advice on how to solve such a mission critical problem—how to grow a business beyond yourself.

After the panel, someone pulled me aside and said he might have an answer for me. We sat down and he shared that he'd just learned "there's a difference between a Project Manager and a Process Manager. If you don't have a Project Manager, you are the Project Manager." Getting the flu and seeing my income grind to a halt solidified the importance of that insight.

A week later, I put out an advert which ultimately led to me hiring my first Project Manager who—matter of fact—still works with me today (and is often referred to as my 📝Work Spouse). Personal obsession with process became organizational obsession with process and, in late 2014, we (a marketing agency) launched a blog to compete with our information marketing clients. My first article went viral on /r/marketing and resulted in an onslaught of press which was awesome... but completely broke all systems (though it took me a year to realize this). When the dust settled, I decided to stop doing macro consulting and start doing micro consulting. I created a monthly membership Slack Community using LaunchPass and called it "snack-sized consulting".

That went well until the systems once again got overloaded as we were constantly answering the same questions. So, after two years of dicking around with almost decent solutions, I built my own. It's called Mythos One and we soft-opened last week. It's free to use and functions a bit like Evernote and Medium had a threesome with Wikipedia.

I'm currently working on a guide detailing how I've been able to automate 30% of my consulting using a ManyChat bot that's answering questions and providing consulting by sharing networked resources.

So... OP... remember the days when you could breath deep and imagine a peaceful inhale. Your body will heal and you'll become stronger from the experience—personally and professionally.
