Bambu Lab X2D is a dual-nozzle desktop 📝FDM 🏷️#3d-printer that dedicates its second extruder entirely to support material, producing clean, peelable supports across a 256 × 256 × 260 mm build volume.

The defining choice is the split toolhead. A direct-drive main nozzle lays down the part while a separate auxiliary nozzle handles every support structure, which removes the tradeoff that governs single-nozzle machines: printing supports in the same material as the part leaves scarred interfaces, and switching materials mid-print on one nozzle wastes filament on purge towers. Dedicating a nozzle to supports lets a soluble or low-adhesion support material do its job without either penalty.

Motion and thermal specifications place it above the hobbyist tier. The toolhead reaches 1000 mm/s with 20,000 mm/s² acceleration, the hotend runs to 300 °C, and an actively heated chamber holds up to 65 °C — the threshold that makes warp-prone engineering filaments practical rather than merely possible. A servo extruder with real-time flow sensing, filament tangle detection, and both liveview and toolhead cameras feed the failure-detection system, alongside vision-encoder-based motion calibration.

Within 📝Bambu Lab's lineup the X2D succeeds the X1 series, targeting hobbyists, prosumers, small businesses, and educational institutions rather than industrial buyers. It accepts up to four AMS 2 Pro and eight AMS HT units, reaching 25 colors in a single print at maximum configuration — an unusually deep multi-material ceiling for a machine at desktop scale, and a continuation of the automation-first approach that has defined consumer 📝3D Printing since 2022.

I first got into 3D printing when I purchased an Ender 3 v2 in December of 2020. Had a bunch of fun learning how to use it and printing a variety of toys and small functional parts. However, when I got into using more complex materials and, more specifically, a conductive 📝PLA, I learned that the complication goes up significantly. I spent four weeks trying to get clean adherence of the first layers for a Print of Thor's hammer in conductive filament. Got so frustrated that I gave up on the hobby completely. Five years later, when I purchased my X2D, it did that exact print with that exact filament—now years degraded—flawlessly on the first attempt.
