Celsius (NASDAQ: CELH) is a Florida energy-drink company whose sugar-free, fitness-positioned flagship has grown into one of the largest brands in the US energy category.
Celsius Holdings was founded in 2004 and is headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, under president and chief executive John Fieldly. The flagship CELSIUS line is sugar-free and built on a caffeine and green-tea extract formula the company markets as clinically studied for thermogenesis — raising metabolic rate during exercise. That framing is the brand's principal differentiator: where Red Bull and Monster sell stimulation, Celsius sells a functional claim, and it built its early distribution in gyms, fitness studios, and health retail rather than convenience coolers.
The inflection came from distribution rather than product. In August 2022 PepsiCo took a minority stake and became the brand's US distributor, moving it out of specialty channels and into mainstream grocery and convenience at national scale. In February 2025 the company agreed to acquire Alani Nu — the Louisville-founded, female-skewing energy brand — for $1.8 billion gross, roughly $1.65 billion net of $150 million in tax assets, closing that April. A subsequent expansion of the PepsiCo agreement made Celsius the category captain for PepsiCo's US energy portfolio and handed it commercial oversight of Rockstar Energy alongside its own two brands.
That leaves a three-brand portfolio — CELSIUS, Alani Nu, and Rockstar — holding approximately a 20.9 percent dollar share of the US energy-drink category in the first quarter of 2026. The trajectory is a useful 📝Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) lesson: the formula did not change materially between the specialty years and the mass-market ones. Shelf access did.
