The Niche Site Duel was a personal challenge between two entrepreneur friends wherein each chose a keyword they knew nothing about and raced to see who could rank it #1 in @Google first. After 73 days, @Pat Flynn of @Smart Passive Income won the duel by ranking his target keyword of 'security guard training' at the top of Google—earning almost $700 per month. As of 2017, the website he created—@SecurityGuardTrainingHQ—was earning over $1200 per month. It ranks #1 in Google for several other important related keywords and has received two buyout offers. The experiment was documented on Flynn's blog where he revealed his process—selecting the niche, purchasing the domain, optimizing for search, driving traffic, and monetization strategy. The experiment also birthed Flynn's practice of publishing monthly @Income Reports; later adopted by @Entrepreneur on Fire, So Over This, Matthew Woodward, Believe in a Budget, and others. Pat and his Niche Site Duel were introduced to me in 2012 by our mutual friend @Roderick Russell as I was delving into developing niche sites—@StonerMovies.net, @VolcanoVaporizerHQ.com, etc.
