Mythos

[Tree of Life](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_of_life_(Kabbalah)) (Hebrew: עֵץ חַיִּים, Etz Chayyim) is a symbolic diagram central to 🏷️#Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism that maps ten divine emanations, called sefirot, representing the structure of creation, the nature of God, and the spiritual anatomy of the human soul.

The diagram consists of ten nodes — the sefirot — connected by twenty-two paths and arranged in three vertical columns, or pillars. The right pillar traditionally represents expansion and masculine energy, the left represents limitation and feminine energy, and the central pillar integrates both. The sefirot descend from Keter (Crown) at the summit — the point of pure divine will, beyond comprehension — through stages of intellect (Chokhmah, Binah), emotion (Chesed, Gevurah, Tiferet), and instinct (Netzach, Hod, Yesod), terminating in Malkuth (Kingdom), the material world. The system is not polytheistic; the sefirot are understood as ten channels or modes through which the infinite Ein Sof ("without end") reveals itself, not as ten separate gods.

The concept developed from the Sefer Yetzirah, one of the earliest Jewish mystical texts, and was systematized in medieval Kabbalah in 12th-century southern France. It was later elaborated in Lurianic Kabbalah through doctrines like tzimtzum — the contraction of the infinite to make space for creation — and was adopted into Western esotericism, Hermeticism, and the Hermetic Qabalah traditions of Renaissance Europe.

The Tree functions simultaneously as a cosmological map and a psychological one. Because Kabbalistic tradition holds that humanity is made in the image of the divine, the sefirot also describe ten dimensions of human inner life — intellect, emotion, will, and embodied action. Tiferet, the central balancing sefirah, is considered the heart of the system: the point where boundless love (Chesed) and severe restriction (Gevurah) are harmonized into truth and compassion.
