Mythos

Self-awareness is the capacity for introspection and the ability to recognize oneself as an individual separate from the environment and other individuals. In the philosophy of self, it is distinct from @Consciousness; while consciousness is being aware of one's surroundings, self-awareness is the recognition of that awareness. According to Self-awareness theory (Duval and Wicklund, 1972), when an individual focuses attention on the self, they evaluate and compare their current behavior to their internal standards and values. Researchers distinguish between two main types: internal self-awareness (understanding one's own values, passions, and impact on others) and external self-awareness (understanding how one is viewed by others). It is widely considered a foundational component of @Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
