CrossPoint Reader is a community-maintained, MIT-licensed, 🏷️#open-source firmware for the 📝XTEINK X3 and X4 e-ink e-readers, replacing the stock software with EPUB 2/3 rendering and expanded reading features.
Built for the ESP32C3 microcontroller inside the XTEINK X3 and X4, CrossPoint adds support for .epub, .txt, and .bmp files, wireless file transfer through a built-in web UI, OPDS catalog browsing, customizable themes, 24 UI languages with right-to-left support, bookmarks, footnotes, and progress syncing with KOReader. It is written primarily in C and C++, built and flashed via PlatformIO, and is explicitly not affiliated with Xteink or any device manufacturer.
The XTEINK X4 ships as a stripped-down, button-only e-reader with no touchscreen, no frontlight, and no built-in library-service support (Overdrive/Libby); CrossPoint exists to close that gap through community development rather than manufacturer updates. As of mid-2026 the project has drawn roughly 6,000 GitHub stars and over 1,000 forks, reflecting an active volunteer contributor base rather than a corporate roadmap.
