Event Guest Links let a host or steward invite someone to one event in a private 📝Communities space without turning the event public or adding them as a member.
How It Works
A host or steward opens the event page, enables a guest link, chooses an expiry and optional use limit, and shares the /invite/e/... link. The recipient sees a standalone event page, signs in or creates an account, claims the link, and RSVPs to that event only. The link is an event-scoped capability: it does not grant access to the community feed, member list, other events, posts, or settings.
Privacy Model
The guest sees the community name, host names, and event details needed to decide whether to attend. The address stays hidden until the guest has claimed the link and has a live Going or Maybe RSVP. They never receive the community shell or a guest list of members.
Community members see an anonymous attendee with status and plus-ones, not a profile. Hosts and stewards can review claimed guests by name because they control admission; granting membership reveals that person across their event RSVPs from then on.
Key Capabilities
- One live link per event — reset retires the old URL immediately while existing RSVPs keep their spots
- Expiry and use caps — links can end when the event ends, after 24 hours, after seven days, or never; caps are none, 10, 25, or 50 claims
- Token-scoped RSVP — a guest claims the event link and RSVPs without joining the community
- Anonymous member-facing list — unrevealed guests appear as anonymous attendees with no uid, name, handle, or avatar
- Ask to join — private communities can receive a normal access request from the guest page; secret communities suppress that option
- Host review — hosts and stewards can keep a guest anonymous or grant membership in one confirmed action
Getting Started
- In steward settings, enable Event guest links under the calendar settings.
- Open an approved event you host or steward.
- Choose Guest link, set the expiry and use limit, then enable or copy the link.
- Share the link with the guest.
- Review anonymous guests from the event's Guest List card when a membership decision is needed.
FAQ
- Is this the same as a join link? No. A join link admits someone into the community; an event guest link grants one event only.
- Can a guest see the private community? No. The token page is standalone and shows only that event.
- When does the address show? After the guest claims the link and has a Going or Maybe RSVP.
- Can members identify the guest? Not until a host or steward grants membership.
