FTD is a flower delivery company and florist network that connects customers with local florists who arrange and hand-deliver flowers and gifts. Founded in 1910, it sells to consumers online and by phone and supplies its member florists with order routing, wire services, and marketing.
FTD began on August 18, 1910, when a group of American florists meeting in Rochester, New York, agreed to fill each other's out-of-town orders by telegraph, forming Florists' Telegraph Delivery. The name later became Florists' Transworld Delivery as the network expanded internationally, and its winged Mercury emblem became one of the best-known marks in the floral trade. In 2014 FTD Companies acquired ProFlowers, and the debt from that deal contributed to the company's Chapter 11 filing in June 2019. Later that year its North American consumer and florist businesses were sold to Nexus Capital Management, and FTD has since operated as a privately held company.
