Alex Howland is an organizational psychologist and 🏷️#entrepreneur who co-founded 📝Virbela, a San Diego–born company that builds immersive virtual campuses for remote work, learning, events, and training. As of 2025 he leads Virbela as CEO.
Howland, who holds a Ph.D., developed Virbela's original concept with fellow organizational psychologist Ron Rembisz, winning a $1.75 million innovation grant from the Graduate Management Admission Council to study learning in immersive environments. He served as president of Virbela after eXp World Holdings acquired it in 2018, and in January 2025 he and CTO Erik Hill announced the founders' reacquisition of the company. He speaks on remote work and virtual events at conferences such as AWE and Running Remote and is a member of the Forbes Technology Council.
