Ben Mann is a Co-Founder of 📝Anthropic and co-lead of Anthropic Labs, the company's internal incubator for experimental AI products.
Before co-founding Anthropic in 2021, Mann helped architect GPT-3 at OpenAI and worked as a software engineer at Google. At Anthropic, he served as product engineering lead before transitioning to co-lead Labs alongside Mike Krieger in January 2026. Where Krieger brings founder and product sensibility, Mann brings deep technical infrastructure knowledge and institutional context as one of Anthropic's original founding team.
Labs operates as a dedicated research and development unit focused on incubating products at the frontier of Claude's capabilities. The unit was created in mid-2024 and is doubling headcount in H1 2026. Mann and Krieger report directly to President Daniela Amodei. As a co-founder, Mann carries influence that extends beyond his formal role — he has been building within Anthropic since day one and understands how the company thinks about new product bets.
