Mythos

Multi-Capital Tipping is a practice from One Inc's cooperative economy in which a member recognizes another's contribution by tipping value in any form of capital — not only money.

Conventional tipping moves money — a small, discretionary payment layered on top of an agreed price to signal gratitude. Multi-Capital Tipping generalizes that gesture across every form of value 📝One Inc recognized. A member could tip another not only in currency but in time, insight, voice, representation, or attention — the six 📝Types of Capital the cooperative accounted for. What the tip carried was recognition: a public acknowledgment that someone's contribution had created value worth honoring.

Every tip was recorded in 📝One Ledger, the cooperative's public account of capital exchange, which placed the practice closer to potlatch gift economies than to service-industry gratuity — status accrued through how much a member gave, not how much they held. Because non-financial capital was quantified only in hindsight, a tip in attention or insight entered the ledger as a story first and a number later, its worth assigned once its longer-term impact came into view.

Multi-Capital Tipping belonged to 📝One Economy, the internal exchange system One Inc ran during its years as a California worker cooperative. As a concept it outlasts that implementation: it reframes gratitude as something expressible in any currency of value a community agrees to see, and treats recognition itself as a genuine economic act.
