Hey Legend,

If I've not yet shared it, our fortnightly 📝Symposium was, in name, inspired by 📝Eric Weiner's portrayal of the Greek tradition in 📝The Geography of Genius.

To the Greeks, a symposium was a time after a meal "when drinking for pleasure was accompanied by music, dancing, recitals, or conversation."

In unconsciously telling the story, I joked—a lot—about how the Greek word symposium translates as "to drink together." In expressing this language, I'd 📝unconsciously assigned the intention of our symposium as, what 📝Charles Eisenstein called, 📝joint consumption. The Greeks never considered wine to be the purpose of their symposiums, it was simply a consistent presence.

It wasn't until I read 📝The Ascent of Humanity that 📝I realized this and discovered language that was more representative of the 📝truth. The Greek symposium was, rather, a gathering in space for 📝co-creativity and 📝play; from play with ideas and words to play with ideologies and worlds.

"Play is the production of fun; entertainment is the consumption of fun." ~ 📝Charles Eisenstein, 📝The Ascent of Humanity

I connected with my 📝Storyteller Consciousness and re-wrote the 📝mythos of Symposium; being vague to avoid assigning purpose.

"The purpose of abstraction is not to be vague, but to create a new semantic level in which one can be absolutely precise." ~ Edsger Dijkstra

This became, for me, an extension of my practice of 📝making space.

Three fortnights ago I decided to take this literally; encouraging people to move throughout the physical space—rather than sit around a table and talking—by spreading prompts for exploration in the 4,000 sq/ft we had available to us.

This was the birth of Symposium Exhibits; a collections of prompts for play. After all, play is, as Stewart Brown defines it, "time spent without purpose."

"📝Stop working on it, but keep doing it." ~ 📝John Zdanowski

With the story of Symposium was retold as "a space for co-creativity," that was the energy that spread. In this simple act, our attendance grew effortlessly from 15 people to 50+ partners in play. We made space and energy filled it.

Conveying the magic that manifested in our gathering space this past Monday feels, to me, an attempt to 📝convey the infinite through finite means. I will, thus, refrain from flattening this experience with language and invite you into it.

Our partners in play have since hinted that they will be contributing everything from tea tastings to T-rex ping pong to our next Symposium. 📝Chase Riner even inspired the idea of Symposium Performances with 📝one of his own.

I invite you into 📝The Felt Presence of Direct Experience. Join us at the next Symposium as, as 📝Terence Mckenna suggested, we create our own culture.
