Text expansion, also known as text replacement, is the process of typing a shortcut or snippet which is automatically converted to a longer string of text; often utilized for inserting names with challenging spelling, commonly used phases, regularly shared emails and links, etc. [1]
Typing of the shortcut triggers the insertion of the corresponding text phrase—typically a commonly used name, phrase, email, address, phone, etc.—as a replacement. Expansions can be used on the device at any point; within chats, emails, forms, etc.
Identifying opportunities, creating text expansions, and training yourself to use them takes time. To more quickly engrain them within mental processes, it's recommended that a library of shortcuts is slowly as adding many will result in shortcuts being forgotten and left unused.
