Steemit was a blogging and social networking platform built on the Steem blockchain, launched March 24, 2016, that rewarded users with STEEM and Steem Dollars cryptocurrency tokens for posting, discovering, and curating content.
The platform grew to over 1.2 million registered users before a 2020 governance dispute fractured its community: after the Tron Foundation acquired Steemit Inc. and gained control of a large "ninja-mined" stake of STEEM tokens, much of the community forked the Steem blockchain into a new, independently-governed network called 📝Hive, which inherited Steemit's content-rewards model without Tron's influence. Steemit itself remains active under Tron's ownership, but Hive is now widely regarded as the community's actual successor.
Before Steemit, my primary publishing catalyst was 📝Reddit's r/entrepreneur and r/startups subreddits, where my best-performing writing topics were harvested into 📝Ghost Influence's compendium on marketing process and growth systems. Steemit let me blend content generation, revenue, and membership marketing into a "purchase not necessary" model of value creation.
